The Usambara rain forest is listed as one of the world’s biodiversity hot spots and a haven for plant life. They are also recognized as among the most valuable conservation areas in Africa.
Lushoto is situated in the West Usambara Mountains in the Northeast part of Tanzania. During colonial times Lushoto and the Usambara mountains were popular due to their pleasant climate as a holiday resort. Through German influence, Lushoto was named “Wilhemstahl” as a result of the German rule at the beginning of the 19th Century large coffee and tea plantations have been cultivated in the southern part of the Mountains and this coffee and tea can be witnessed around the mountains to date.
In East Usambara which situated in Muheza Amani forest reserve, a botanical garden has been established in 1902 and It is Still one of the Largest and oldest botanical gardens in Africa.
The fertile terrain is great for broad agricultural activity vegetables, grapes and many other tropical fruits find an ideal growth here.
Magamba Rain forest and Irente viewpoint.
Full-day tour
The tour starts from Lushoto town to Kwembago royal village. Then continue walking through Magamba rain forest, On the way, you will see Colobus monkeys, Insects, Birds, two horns Chameleon, and an old German trench. We will Get to the peak of about 1850m a.s.l, where you can enjoy a nice view over Lushoto town.

Descend down to Irente Biodiversity through Kwembago village: Get a lunch break at Irente farm, and continue walking to Irente viewpoint.
You will have an incredible view over the Maasai plain and the main road of Dar es Salaam to Arusha; In a height of 1500m a.s.l.
Kisasa waterfall tour
Full day hike | 5 - 6 hrs
Walk from Lushoto town through Jegetal forest,Villages up to Ndekai viewpoint then decend to kisasa waterfall admire the wonderfull scenery of waterfall about 45 meters and enjoy a picnic lunch at the waterfall.
